The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) has released a Draft Master Plan for improvement of its 22 acre McIntyre Ranch property, located in the hills just northeast of the City.

The draft plan is being circulated for public review prior to formal review at a meeting of the GVRD Board scheduled for May 8 at 6:30 p.m. at GVRD Administrative Offices, located at 395 Amador Street in Vallejo.

The Draft Master Plan and related appendices can be viewed at the District office, downloaded above, or purchased at Kinko’s Copies, 720 Admiral Callaghan Lane in Vallejo.

The scenic McIntyre Ranch seems worlds away from urban Vallejo, though it is just over the ridge. It is surrounded by over 900 acres of open space owned by the Solano Land Trust. The ranch features an old barn and stone tack house, a newer stable building, and a deteriorated main house that is slated to be demolished. The Master Plan envisions group picnicking, continuing equestrian activities, youth camping, group retreats, a ropes course and potentially demonstration farming and gardening activities. The old main house is envisioned to be replaced by a multi-purpose nature center/conference facility.

The Draft Master Plan reflects public comments from a Board workshop held November 14, 2007 to review existing conditions at the ranch, and ideas and comments about its potential use. Based on comments at the May 8 meeting, the Board is expected to finalize the elements to be included in the Master Plan, which will then be reviewed in an environmental document to address the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The CEQA document will be circulated for public comments about the environmental impact analysis. The response to comments/proposed final CEQA document and the proposed final Master Plan will return to the Board for final review and approval, anticipated to occur in late summer 2008.
