March 12, 2020
Dear GVRD Employees and Community Members,
We wanted to take this opportunity to reach out to everyone and let you know what GVRD is doing in response to the ongoing updates about COVID-19.
Per the California Department of Public Healh (CDPH), we will be adhering to the following:
* Large gatherings that include 250 people or more should be postponed or canceled
* Small gatherings held in venues that do not allow social distancing of six feet per person should be postponed or canceled
* Gatherings of individuals who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should be limited to no more than 10 people
The CDPH guidance goes on to define a “gathering” as any event or convening that brings together people in a single room or single space at the same time, such as an auditorium, stadium, arena, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria, or any other indoor or outdoor space. Importantly, these findings are said to apply to all non-essential professional, social, and community gatherings regardless of their sponsor. Finally, this guidance is to remain in place at least through the month of March.
What this means:
As you are aware, the response and guidance to COVID-19 is an evolving situation. GVRD is prioritizing the health of both our employees and our community members. We are working to cancel and postpone events that might put any of our employees or community at risk. We are following the news to stay informed. We are ensuring our employees and the community have as much information as possible and are keeping spaces as clean as possible. Please bear with us as we cancel programs and classes to keep everyone’s risk down. We are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing all of us as a community, state, and nation.
We are trying to keep everyone informed of any news and updates as quickly as we can. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
