Greater Vallejo Recreation District Appoints Interim General Manager, Launches National Search

VALLEJO, CA -- The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) announced that its Board of Directors will consider the appointment of Pamela Sloan as Interim General Manager at its meeting on Thursday, April 9. If approved, she will provide steady leadership and operational continuity while the District conducts a national search for a permanent leader.

Pamela brings more than 30 years of distinguished experience in parks, recreation, and library services, with deep expertise in organizational management, operations, and strategic planning. She has advised agencies nationwide on department evaluation, facility management, park master planning, program development, and accreditation. Her comprehensive approach emphasizes efficiency, innovation, and community-centered service delivery.

“Pamela’s proven leadership and breadth of experience make her exceptionally well-suited to guide GVRD during this transition,” said Chair Judt.  “Her track record of strengthening organizations and enhancing services will help ensure our residents continue to enjoy high-quality parks and recreation opportunities.”

Throughout her career, Pamela has held senior leadership roles with the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and served as Director of Community Services for the City of Stockton, where she led efforts to improve efficiency and achieve long-term sustainability. Under her leadership, Stockton became the first city in California to earn National Recreation and Park Association accreditation.

A Certified Park and Recreation Professional through both the California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) and NRPA, Pamela has also served on NRPA committees and its Board of Directors. She is an official reviewer for the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and has supported numerous agencies in achieving accreditation through strategic planning, marketing, and organizational development.

Vice Chair Stewart added, “Pamela’s depth of knowledge will be invaluable as we continue advancing GVRD’s vision of providing safe, accessible parks and innovative, affordable recreation opportunities. We are confident in her ability to lead the District forward during this important time.”

The Board also extends its appreciation to departing General Manager Gabe Lanusse for his 14 years of service to GVRD, and the Board wishes him success in his future endeavors.

GVRD remains committed to its mission of promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles and will continue advancing the national search process for its next permanent General Manager.
