The California Association of Recreation and Park Districts (CARPD) awards Gabriel Lanusse the 2026 Outstanding General Manager Award. Additionally, GVRD received the 2025-2026 Ted Winslow Safety Award.
Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) General Manager Gabriel Lanusse was selected as the recipient of the 2026 CARPD Award of Distinction for Outstanding General Manager. This award goes to a GM whose significant contributions have gone above and beyond in service of their District.
Mr. Lanusse has more than 35 years of public service experience, including 15 years with GVRD and more than nine years as General Manager. Throughout his tenure, he focused on strengthening GVRD’s foundation by enhancing safety, improving facilities, providing direction and support to the board on various initiatives and worked towards stabilizing finances. He is widely respected for his integrity, collaborative approach, and long-term vision. His leadership has helped guide GVRD through both challenges and opportunities while reinforcing its role as a trusted community resource.
“Receiving this recognition from CARPD is truly an honor,” said Lanusse. “This award reflects the dedication of our board, staff, partners, and community. It has been a privilege to work alongside so many people who are committed to providing welcoming parks, meaningful programs, and lasting experiences for our residents.”
This recognition comes as Lanusse prepares to retire, marking the culmination of a distinguished career in public service. His legacy will leave a lasting impact on GVRD, its staff, and the community it serves.
Additionally, the Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) has been honored with the 2025–2026 Ted Winslow Safety Award from the California Association for Parks and Recreation Indemnity (CAPRI).
The Ted Winslow Safety Award is given annually by CAPRI to recreation and park districts that achieve above 90% in over 20 safety categories. It recognizes outstanding performance in safety and loss control, reflecting a district’s commitment to protecting employees, visitors, and the community
This award highlights GVRD’s dedication to safety across all aspects of its operations, from day-to-day maintenance to large-scale community events. It also highlights the district’s proactive approach to risk management and employee well-being.
